Today's Trading Recap - Screen Shot

Great Trading Today:

Notable stocks Traded today in the Juggernaut Room.

ORCL - we were late here, first entry was not until $5.95, Incredible relative strength and trade ability. Called it long it all the way up to 6.24-6.40. Also, on the retrace to the 200 day ma support level at 6.06. Re entered long at $6.11. Steve's mentor had large size at 5.75 in for 10k and out at 6 and 6.10 respectively.

NFLX - A monster all week, John called entries long at 151, 153 and fades aove155. Cramer just now said to take a schnitzel.

RIMM   called all morning long for impressive gains both in the room and on this blog. The WSJ new tablet product release story triggered this event. RIMM currently has a uncertainty argument that should continue to work well to the upside until the release IMO. Heavy call option activity in the AM as well.

Long RIMM all day, still long on a swing trade to a FIB target of 52

Long RIMM since the earnings on a swing trade. Took a lot of  pain long it yesterday. I'm have a hard stop at yesterdays lows after the weekend barrons bashing. The stock today has almost retraced all those losses with incredible relative strength. i have been calling it long in the room all day for handsome profits. I'm looking for a short term target of 46.94, and a fib expansion target on a partial swing trade to 52. I'm suspecting a slow melt up in the NASDAQ till next quarterly earnings season and this stock I'm planing on holding as a core position to swing the overall market strength.

Today's Trading Recap - Screen Shot

AM Trading:  Opening P&L +$750.00, Ending P&L $450.00. Roughly a 30% retrace from my high
Pre market and opening bell proved fruitful. BBY beat and guided higher. We shorted the emotional low vol candle on the headline for some nice scalps for a quick .75c i the pre market. My high P&L was up $750.0 at 9:40 am. The market tested your discipline as my P$L went negative as the AM wore through lunch. Higher Highs on th SP through the 1120 level stopped out any and all shorts.
PM trading: Ending P&L -$750
PM trading was as tough for me. I flipped long a few stocks, had a profitable trade in STI on a buyout rumor and a pre announcement that ended failing. (remember we are in pre announcement season). I ended closing out at 4:00 pm at my low P&L of -$750.00.  A frustrating swing as I was stopped on most shorts earlier
Post Market Trading:  Ending P&L +$250.00 (See screen shot below) Roller coaster day for me.
There were 3 trade-able events that proved profitable as I made about  $1000.00 in the post market by 5:00pm. Not a bad recovery.
  • MA I made a few dollars in on a board approved buyback. In 201, out 203 - 204
  • NBIX capitulated on a headline at the round level 5, before bouncing back a buck to over 6. This was y big winner.
  • AU announced a convertible bond and a equity offering. This was a double whammy that trended the stock lower all post market long till the close.
Glad I was clear headed, but in hynsight up $750 in th am needed to respect a trailing P&L stop loss considering the choppy lite volume market environment. I had stopped at up $450, and continued tradng against my better judgment which ended which ended with  a failed weak argument. See the Screen shot below, The only real mistake was letting a positive trade in BY go Negative
"Quote off he day, practice what you preach" Jim Kelleher". Thanks For checking.... Tim.

Guest Post from DL

In efforts to work more intimately with our group, we will be posting all comments, positive, negative or indifferent on the blog moving forward.

"It's amazing what you do with showing everyone your screen.  In an industry when you can do everything right and still lose money, I don't know how you do it.  It's very helpful instead of being in a chat and just guessing whether the trades were live or not.  Good job."

Thanks DL.....Tim.

Today's Trading Recap - VISA Screen Shot

With the broader markets gaping up 1% from Friday's close, we were able to identify solid short arguments based on relative weakness. V which we traded late last week on a UBS downgrade continued showing weakness today. As discussed in the am newsletter, we were looking for stocks going plus to minus on the bell. We shorted V when it was just going negative at the 67.75. Basically made $2.50 on the whole piece as we shorted in and out while holding a core position the whole way. Best covers were on partials later in the day at the big round level test of $65.00. Today's Low of 64.90 will be a entry for shorts possibly moving forward later on in the week.  A days pay was locked in at 10:10 am est.

All trades were called and displayed in the Juggernaut Virtual Trading Room.

Barron's Summary

Saturday, September 11, 2010 1:25:14 PM
Barron's Summary: Positive on XRX, INTU, cautious on VWM
- Xerox appears on the cover of Barron's which is positive on the name. Barrons comments on the acquisition of Affiliated Power which has increased revenues from service to 50% from 23% and is already paying off. Furthemore, Xerox has repeatedly seen increases in earnings beating estimates and the cash flow has been increasing despite the recession. Wall Street has not yet grasped Xerox's new business and the stock is trading at a modest valuation and a cheap multiple. Citing an analyst at Seligman Investments, Barron's says that the company is expected to increase operating margins to the low teens from 10% and its stock could double.
- Cautious article on VMWare. Wall Street analysts still expect strong earnings growth but a threat may come from competitors such as Adobe, Microsoft, Oracle who are more seasoned that the company. Barrons notes that the stock trades at a pricey $85 or 61 times this year's expected earnings, which leaves the stock susceptible to the smallest glitch.
- Positive feature on Intuit the developer of personal-finance applications like Quicken and TurboTax. The company is poised to benefit from the rising demand for affordable accounting and other companies to help run smaller businesses. Despite the fact that the stock is not very cheap at 16 times its expected earnings, it is still cheaper than its competitors such as Salesforce.com or NetSuite who serve large corporate customers. Barron's expects the stock to rise as much as 25% over the next year.
- Barrons features an article on Tech companies which have been reporting better profits than the rest of the corporate America, but paying unattractive dividend yields. With many investment strategists looking to park money in high dividend stocks, this could be hurting tech firms, whose shares have fallen to their lowest value relative to the S&P since early 1991.
- The head of Global Macro and Asset Allocation for Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Henry McVey interviews for Barron's and notes that the economy is in a secular bear market with the next headwind being the debt overhang in the developed economies. McVey says that investors should look for companies that have rising returns on capital, improving dividends and a strong earnings growth such as McDonald's, Automatic Data Processing and Caterpillar. Outside the U.S., Mc Vey remains focused on growth areas, including the emerging markets such as Turkey, Indonesia and India while Germany still looks attractive as an exporter. According to McVey, the most important point in asset allocation nowadays is to think in terms of pro-growth, anti-growth and trades for all seasons

Today's Trading Recap - NOK Screen Shot

As discussed in the 1pm recap meeting, we had a decent morning. The call in the am meeting to short NOK at 10.19 for a gap fill to the big round level 10 worked famously (see below). 5 arguments were met and the room did very well. Once again we broadcast-ed all entry's, positions and orders.

SDS worked well long as with te market gaping up over 1100 and taking profits at the unchanged level.

Steve's MAD MONEY appearance with Cramer

Steve has Been short V the whole way this week in the Juggernaut Room, see his notes below. Had it all morning long today for dollars....Fun Stuff...

Wed 8/9 6pm...

Tim:

I was on Cramer’s mad money today asking about Visa, take a listen to file attached…

After reading about finreg, a bad associated press article and the BoA downgrade, hear what Cramer has to say too.  I think  70 has become resistance vs. support.
My 90 seconds of fame…lol

68.01 is the last support level on V, then it’s done.  Look @ a daily chart and this could be a compelling argument to go short given the uncertainty caused by finreg.  The only thing working here is the midterm elections so the Obama administration may want to move fast before losing the super majority in November.  If the rules don’t get written by then, V/MA/AXP will all be in no-man’s land with nowhere to go, but down.

I love this job!

Regards,

Steven M. Cohen
